We are beyond excited to announce that The Black Church Food Security Network is spending Earth Day weekend at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.  This church, which is the historic church of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the King Family, is currently blessed to have United States Senator, Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock as its pastor.  Ebenezer has been a bastion for civil rights and social justice since the twentieth century.  We are honored to partner with this pastor and congregation to amplify the message of food justice during Earth Day this year.

We have planned the following events for the weekend:

Saturday, April 21, 2023 9AM – 12PM

Panel discussion on the theme: “Bigger Than The Next Meal: Planting Seeds For Food Justice.”  Panelists include Cicely Garrett (National Black Food & Justice Alliance), Rev. Dr. Angelique Walker-Smith (Bread For The World), Dr. Karen Goodlett (Ebenezer Baptist Church) and others.  This conversation will be moderated by Rev. Matthew Williams, President of Interdenominational Theological Center.

Saturday 12PM – 2PM

Black Farm Tour for church members, community residents and students to meet local Black growers and learn more about Atlanta’s food system.

On Sunday, April 22, 2023 9AM

We’ll share in worship for Creation Care Sunday with Ebenezer.  Our Founder and Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Heber Brown, III will be the morning preacher.

Sunday 10:30AM – 12PM

Immediately after worship, we’ll host a Soil to Sanctuary Market on the grounds of the church.  The market will feature Black farmers, businesses, and various organizations.
